• In your complimentary , confidential Family Building consultation, you will meet with our expert midwife to see if our service is the right fit for your journey.

• We will discuss any pertinent health history; your goals; and our process.

• We can’t provide medical advice until you’re a Birth Roots client, but we are happy to share some general knowledge while we are evaluating fit.

• Once you have decided to move forward with our Family Building service, you will have your first visit as a Birth Roots client.

• The first visit is typically scheduled as 1.5 hours and may be done in person or virtually from anywhere in Illinois.

• This initial clinical visit will involve a more thorough assessment of your health history; and may involve a lab draw to check on your preconception health.

• It’s also packed with education about preconception health and the IUI process, including legal referrals and options for donor material.

• We will discuss the ways to evaluate your fertility cycle and how to chart your cycle during this process.

• Rarely, we may discuss the option to use medications during your cycles. However, the default approach is unmedicated cycles.

• We typically recommend that you track your fertility cycle for at least 3 months prior to insemination, in order to best understand your specific fertility cycle.

• We will provide you with all the education and resources to know how to document everything you will need.

• During this time, if you have not already, you will finalize your donor material.

• The midwife is available for consultation/checking in about the data you’re collecting about your cycle via HIPAA-compliant messaging, for all established Birth Roots Family Building clients.

• This is typically done via a “Brief Midwife Visit” so the midwife can review your fertility chart and make a plan for the optimal timing of your insemination.

• We will go through some logistics and be ready for your first round of insemination.

TYPICAL FEE: $75

• If you choose IUI with the midwife, we will come to you at the ideal time in your cycle. IUI can be performed in the coziness of your own home (within a 45 minute drive for the midwife) or at the Birth Roots office.

• The IUI visit typically lasts about 1 hour.

• According to current evidence, conception rates are not improved with more than one IUI per cycle.

• ‍Folks using donor material for intracervical insemination (ICI or “at-home insemination”) without the midwife’s support will also plan their insemination timing based on cycle tracking data.

FEE: $500* per IUI cycle

*additional fees apply if sperm preparation/washing is required. We do not charge extra for weekends/holidays

• We recommend that you take a home urine pregnancy test 14 days after the insemination.

• Update the midwife once you know the results of your urine pregnancy test.

• It takes an average of 4 cycles to achieve conception. Some will need more; others will need fewer.

• If at any time, we need to pivot our plans to a higher level of care to meet your goals, we can discuss medicated cycles; labs; and provide referrals to fertility specialists.

• Additional Brief Midwife Visits may be scheduled as needed to discuss progress and your journey. (FEE: $75, only if visit indicated)

• We can provide a letter from the midwife that can be used in legal processes to verify the pregnancy resulted from IUI.

• Once a Family Building client has become pregnant through our service, we offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation to discuss next steps in care.

• As a seasoned Chicago-area midwife, our practice as lots of connections and insights into the local birth world and can be available for personalized planning for your next steps.

• If needed, clients may schedule additional clinical visits with the midwife while waiting to establish care with their preferred provider for services such as labs or support with early pregnancy symptoms.

• Family Building clients interested in home birth with Birth Roots may schedule a free home birth consultation.
